Rising Incidents of Teacher Abuse Prompt National Observatory for Education and Training to Issue Strong Statement, Calls for Public Prosecutor’s Intervention

The National Observatory for Education and Training has expressed deep concern over the escalating incidents of violence in educational, administrative, recreational, and sports institutions, as well as in public spaces. The Observatory cited unfortunate cases of assaults on two female teachers in Errachidia and Fkih Ben Saleh, as well as an attack on a student in Sefrou.

In an official statement, the Observatory vehemently rejected all forms of violence, whether physical or verbal, due to its negative repercussions on individuals and society at large. The statement called on the public prosecutor to initiate an immediate investigation into the recent incidents and hold those involved in these aggressive acts accountable.

This appeal comes at a critical time, as the Observatory warned that the continued rise in violence could severely impact social and economic security. The Observatory emphasized the need for zero tolerance towards such extremist behaviors that directly harm the social fabric. In this context, it stressed the importance of promoting a culture of dialogue and respect for differences as essential tools for managing disputes among individuals. It also called on governmental, political, civil, academic, and family actors to intensify efforts in this direction.

Regarding the recent incidents, the Observatory pointed out the assault on a teacher in Errachidia, wishing her a speedy recovery. It also warned about the seriousness of incidents in Temara, the Agdal train station, and certain hospitals, which have negative implications for state institutions. Additionally, it addressed the issue of violence in schools and universities, stressing the need for decisive measures to curb the spread of this phenomenon within educational institutions.

In light of these developments, the statement noted that violence has multiple roots—social, economic, educational, and psychological—many of which stem from social upbringing. The Observatory emphasized the challenge of safeguarding society through education in citizenship and high moral values, and urged the inclusion of these values in educational curricula while promoting extracurricular activities within schools.

Finally, the National Observatory called for a review of educational curricula to align them with the demands of the modern era. It stressed the importance of supporting programs related to citizenship education and reinforcing the culture of peace and coexistence. The Observatory also called on the relevant authorities to enhance their role in awareness and training, contributing to proper preparation for upcoming national and international milestones.
