In a strongly worded statement, the regional office of the National Union of Education Employees (affiliated with the UNTM) in Fez expressed deep concern over the “deteriorating state” of the education system in the province, placing full responsibility on the Provincial Directorate of Education for what it described as “mismanagement, negligence, and administrative and educational corruption.”
According to the statement received by Fes News Media, the union denounced what it called a state of “chaos and improvisation” within the directorate, accusing those in charge of “lacking competence and political will” to properly manage a vital sector that should be leading educational reform instead of reflecting systemic decline.
The union listed several alarming irregularities, including:
- The absence of effective communication channels, which worsens crises and complicates potential solutions.
- Disorder in teacher assignments, allegedly carried out outside legal frameworks to serve narrow personal or political interests.
- Denial of students’ right to education by reassigning their teachers to other institutions without justification.
- Manipulation of physical education assignments, turning the subject into a tool for favoritism and “administrative rent-seeking.”
- Shielding so-called “ghost employees” who do not fulfill their professional duties.
- Undermining of the primary education cycle through overcrowded classrooms and externally motivated assignments that benefit a select few.
- Lack of transparency in “Schools of Excellence” assignments and failure to verify dubious medical certificates.
- Repeated loss of teachers’ administrative files and disregard for their complaints.
- Ignoring employees’ official requests and unjustified refusal to grant permissions to take part in competitive exams.
- Withholding promotion scores from candidates, which the union labeled as “collusion and cover-up of corrupt practices.”
- Neglect of school infrastructure projects, exacerbating overcrowding and undermining quality education efforts.
- Silence on the issue of administrative housing and lack of transparency regarding their current occupation.
- Total absence of a clear strategy to eliminate prefab classrooms, despite their known health and safety risks.
The union described the current state of the Provincial Directorate as “disastrous,” adding that supposed reform initiatives have become hollow slogans that waste precious school time and public funds with no tangible impact on educational quality.
In conclusion, the union reaffirmed its commitment to continue its advocacy in defense of public education and the dignity of education professionals, calling on the responsible authorities to urgently intervene and stop what it referred to as an “administrative and educational hemorrhage” threatening the future of students in the country’s cultural capital.
