Allegations Against Secretary of Fez-Meknes Regional Council… Close Source Denies Drug Trafficking Links

Following the circulation of media reports claiming that Youssef Mrad, the Secretary of the Fez-Meknes Regional Council, had fled the country before the issuance of a judicial decision to imprison him, allegedly due to his involvement in a forgery and drug network, a highly informed source has broken their silence. In an exclusive statement to Fès News, the source asserted that all these accusations are baseless and aim, according to them, to “attempt to influence an ongoing judicial process that has not yet reached any final verdict.”

The source clarified that the case in which Youssef Mrad is being investigated has absolutely no connection to any drug trafficking network. Rather, according to available information, it pertains to a “legal financial transaction related to a sale amounting to 600,000 dirhams, which is currently under judicial investigation and does not involve any described criminal nature as is being promoted.”

The same spokesperson emphasized that the Council Secretary’s travel outside the national territory was not an escape from justice but was due to a documented medical necessity, of which the competent authorities were informed. They denied that the individual in question had been notified of any arrest warrant before his departure.

The source stated that Youssef Mrad “trusts in the judicial procedures and the fairness of the Moroccan judiciary and will comply with any legal procedure as soon as his medical examinations are complete,” urging “not to be swayed by fabricated news aimed at creating confusion and defamation for unclear purposes.”

The case remains under investigation, with the first hearing before the investigating judge of the Second Chamber of the Fez Court scheduled for May 19, 2025, to examine the details of the case and hear from the remaining concerned parties, including employees and suspects.
