Chakib Benmoussa, Minister of National Education, Primary Education and Sports, recognized that school wastage in rural areas is a fundamental challenge that threatens the education system, stressing that reducing this phenomenon has become a key strategic objective in the 2022-2026 roadmap.
Benmoussa pointed out that the goals were to reduce the wastage rate by nearly one-third, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving educational performance in these vital areas.
In terms of numbers, Benmoussa emphasized that the number of students who left school in the 2021-2022 academic year decreased by 12% to 294,000 students, considering that this figure is still high.
As part of the government’s efforts, initiatives have succeeded in recovering 50,000 students who had dropped out of school, highlighting the effectiveness of the measures taken to promote education and reduce waste.
During the oral question session in the House of Representatives, Benmoussa stressed the importance of reviewing the legal framework to establish a unified identification number that facilitates tracking the achievement of each student individually, in addition to focusing on universal primary education as one of the main factors in reducing the waste and dropout rate, and emphasized the importance of individualized intervention for students by addressing academic delays and enhancing educational support for students who face difficulties.
