His Majesty King Mohammed VI Extends Condolences to the Catholic Church Following the Death of Pope Francis I

His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Commander of the Faithful, sent a heartfelt message of condolences to Cardinal Giovanni Battista Re, Dean of the College of Cardinals at the Vatican, following the death of His Holiness Pope Francis I.

In the message, His Majesty expressed his profound sorrow and deep sympathy for this great loss, offering his sincere condolences to Cardinal Re and, through him, to the Christian world, particularly the Catholic Church.

The King highlighted the Pope’s remarkable religious leadership and dedication to the noble principles of humanity, embodying shared values of faith, freedom, peace, and solidarity among peoples. His Majesty also praised the late Pope’s commitment to advocating for environmental protection and addressing human concerns.

In his message, the King recalled the Pope’s humanitarian efforts, particularly his fight against marginalization and poverty, defense of human dignity, and his condemnation of the circumstances surrounding illegal migration. Furthermore, the Pope’s calls for fostering values of dialogue, tolerance, and interfaith coexistence were noted.

The King also reminisced about the historic visit the late Pope made to Morocco in March 2019, which was a significant milestone in strengthening cooperation between Morocco and the Vatican, culminating in the signing of the “Jerusalem Declaration,” which called for ensuring freedom of access to the holy city for followers of the three Abrahamic religions.

In closing, His Majesty prayed to the Almighty to grant the late Pope His abundant mercy and to bestow patience and comfort upon his family and the Christian community.
