The Importance of Researching Company Culture Before Applying for a Job in Morocco

Amid the rapid transformations shaping Morocco’s labor market, company culture has become one of the key factors young Moroccans consider before applying for any job opportunity. Many job seekers now aim to ensure that a company’s values and management style align with their personal and professional aspirations—a shift that reflects a significant change in the new generation’s perception of work.

A recent study by the U.S.-based HR consulting platform Toister Solutions revealed that 95% of job seekers consider company culture a critical factor in deciding whether to accept or reject an offer. Furthermore, 43% stated they had already turned down job offers after realizing the work environment did not align with their values or preferred work style.

In the Moroccan context, reports from Michael Page Africa, a global recruitment platform, indicate that most young Moroccans seek companies that value professional training and development (74%) and demonstrate a commitment to social and environmental responsibility (69%). This points to a growing awareness of the need to work in healthy environments with clear missions and meaningful goals.

Recruitment experts affirm that understanding company culture is no longer a luxury but a practical necessity to avoid career setbacks and misaligned job paths. In this regard, Ahmed Ben Aissa, an HR consultant based in Casablanca, stated:

“Many early resignations we see result from post-hire reality shocks, where candidates realize that the work environment doesn’t meet their standards or lacks the career growth opportunities they had hoped for.”

To avoid such situations, experts recommend proactive steps such as:

  • Browsing the company’s official website to understand its mission and values.
  • Reading employee reviews on platforms like Glassdoor.
  • Observing how the company interacts on social media to gauge transparency and engagement.

This proactive approach is especially important in Morocco, where the job market is highly competitive, and youth unemployment among university graduates remains high. According to data from Morocco’s High Commission for Planning, the unemployment rate for young higher-education graduates reached approximately 18.4% in 2024, reinforcing the need for well-informed and strategic career decisions.

Given these dynamics, understanding a company’s culture has become a crucial element in building a successful career path—on par with technical qualifications and hands-on experience. This reality has led specialists to call for the integration of company culture awareness into university career guidance and training programs.
