Tunisian Fugitive from French Prison Arrested at Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport

Casablanca: Police officers at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport arrested a Tunisian national on Monday evening who was the subject of an international arrest warrant issued by the French judicial authorities.

A security source reported that the 47-year-old suspect was apprehended shortly after his arrival on a flight from Tunisia. A database check through the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) revealed that he was the subject of a red notice issued by the National Central Bureau in Paris since 2021 for the execution of a court decision.

According to preliminary investigation data, the individual in question had escaped from prison while serving a 30-year sentence for his involvement in France in a series of armed robberies as part of an organized gang, as well as a case related to drug possession and armed manslaughter in the Netherlands.

The suspect has been placed in police custody pending his presentation to the competent public prosecutor, while the National Central Bureau (Interpol Rabat), under the Directorate General of National Security (DGSN), has been tasked with notifying its French counterpart of the arrest within the framework of extradition procedures.

This operation is part of the commitment of the Moroccan security services to strengthen international security cooperation mechanisms, particularly regarding the tracking and arrest of individuals wanted internationally in transnational crime cases.
