Minister Nizar Baraka Unveils Major Road Projects to Upgrade Infrastructure and Support Enterprises in Morocco in Preparation for the 2030 World Cup (Video)

On Monday, Nizar Baraka, Minister of Equipment and Water, revealed the government’s ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure in rural areas through various programs and initiatives aimed at developing deteriorated roads and ensuring their sustainability, particularly in mountainous or agricultural regions.

During a parliamentary Q&A session, the Minister clarified that the Ministry of Equipment’s involvement in rural road construction is carried out exclusively through structured partnerships with regional and provincial councils. He noted that roads with an agricultural character fall under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture, funded through the Agricultural Development Fund.

In this context, Baraka highlighted that the Rural Development Fund has contributed to the construction of a total of 20,000 kilometers of roads. He emphasized that the government has recently adopted a new approach that prioritizes the maintenance of the existing road network rather than merely expanding it, in order to ensure continuous connectivity and improve mobility for rural populations.

The Minister also pointed out that his ministry is currently implementing a program to maintain 500 kilometers of rural roads, in addition to signing several agreements with various regions to expand maintenance operations and intervene in priority areas.

According to the Minister, these efforts fall within a broader vision aimed at reducing territorial and social disparities and achieving sustainable development. This vision focuses on infrastructure improvement as a key entry point to fostering economic and social development opportunities in rural areas.
