In a statement issued by the regional office of the National Union of Education (affiliated with the Moroccan Labor Union – UMT) in Beni Mellal, the union strongly condemned the criminal incident that claimed the life of teacher Hajar in the city of Erfoud.
The office expressed its full solidarity with the victim’s family, both immediate and extended, as well as with all women and men working in the education sector, especially those in vocational training institutions and higher education.
The statement described the incident in Erfoud as “unprecedented,” involving a physical assault with a bladed weapon in front of the victim’s official residence. It added that this assault marks a dangerous escalation in a series of attacks targeting education professionals. These incidents are now posing a serious threat to the physical and psychological safety of educational staff, which negatively impacts the educational process.
The regional office of the National Union of Education called for urgent protection for educational personnel and the provision of proper security conditions in workplaces. It also urged for fundamental solutions to combat the phenomenon of assaults on education sector workers.
In conclusion, the National Union of Education called for participation in a symbolic protest to be held on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at 12:00 PM in front of the ISTA vocational training complex on the Fqih Ben Salah road, with the participation of various branches of the Moroccan Labor Union in the Beni Mellal-Khenifra region.
