“Atlas Lionesses” Kick Off Futsal AFCON with Eight Goals Against Namibia

Rabat: The Moroccan national women’s futsal team, nicknamed the “Atlas Lionesses,” began their campaign in the 2025 Women’s Africa Futsal Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a resounding victory over Namibia, scoring eight goals to one. The match, which opened the Group A fixtures for both teams, took place on Tuesday evening at the indoor hall of the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

The “Atlas Lionesses” displayed a high level of technical skill throughout the encounter, completely dominating the proceedings and captivating the large crowd that filled the stands to support the players.

The Moroccan goals came in quick succession in the first half, with Malak Zid El Kilani, Doha El Madani, Soumia Hadi, Amal El Aoufi, Siham Tdlaoui Maloum, and Drissia Koureich all finding the net, giving the “Atlas Lionesses” a commanding 6-1 lead at halftime.

At the start of the second half, the Namibian team managed to score their only goal of the match. However, the Moroccan team maintained their dominance, with Yasmine Demraoui adding two more goals to seal a convincing and comprehensive 8-1 victory for the national side.

The match was attended by the Minister of National Education, Preschool Education and Sports, Mr. Mohamed Saad Brada, alongside the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, who witnessed the “Atlas Lionesses'” impressive opening win in the continental tournament.

The Moroccan team is now preparing to face Cameroon in their second Group A match next Thursday.

The current edition of the Women’s Africa Futsal Cup of Nations, hosted by Morocco until April 30th, features the participation of nine African national teams divided into three groups. Group A includes hosts Morocco, Cameroon, and Namibia. Group B consists of Angola, Guinea, and Egypt. Group C comprises Tanzania, Senegal, and Madagascar.

According to the tournament regulations, the teams that finish in the top spot of each group will directly qualify for the semi-finals. The best second-placed team from the group stage will also secure the fourth spot in the final four.

It is worth noting that the two finalists of the tournament will secure their places in the FIFA Women’s Futsal World Cup, scheduled to be held in the Philippines from November 27th to December 7th, 2025.
