The designation of Spain as country of honor for the 16th International Agricultural Show in Morocco (SIAM), scheduled for April 22 to 28 in Meknes, once again illustrates the depth and anchoring of the ancestral relations that link the two Kingdoms.
This highly symbolic gesture towards Spain reflects Morocco’s renewed desire to consolidate these multidimensional relationships, particularly in the field of economic and commercial cooperation, and in particular in the agricultural sector.
Agriculture occupies a central place in relations between the two neighboring countries, constituting an essential pillar of their dynamic cooperation and shared prosperity. The two countries, united by geographic proximity and influenced by the same Mediterranean climate, share agricultural systems with common characteristics and challenges.
It is about the scarcity of water resources, the impact of climate change on yield and crops, the imperative to modernize agricultural systems, or even international competition on agricultural and agri-food products, and the access of the two countries to international markets.
Faced with these crucial issues for the sustainability and resilience of agricultural systems, and therefore for the food sovereignty of Morocco and Spain, SIAM 2024, whose theme chosen this year is: “Climate and agriculture: for systems of sustainable and resilient production”, promises to be the ideal framework to facilitate exchanges between participants from both shores and collaborate in the development of common solutions.
Thus, the Spanish pavilion, erected on 544 square meters, will serve as a meeting point to promote commercial exchanges and partnerships between Moroccan and Spanish companies, strengthen their cooperation and explore new development opportunities in the agricultural sector.
Spain’s participation is also expected to break records this year, with the expected presence of 37 Spanish companies that will actively contribute to the various works of the Show focused on agricultural innovation, sustainability, climate change, water management and new technologies.
A flagship event, entitled “Smart Irrigation & Crop Innovation”, will bring together experts from Spain and Morocco to share their knowledge and experiences in these fundamental areas for the future of agriculture, particularly in the Mediterranean region.
The 2024 edition of SIAM will see the participation of nearly 70 countries and 1,500 exhibitors. More than 950,000 visitors are expected at this high mass of Moroccan and international agriculture which offers a rich program of 40 conferences and round tables on crucial current themes.
This show will also be marked by the introduction of a new “Agri-Digital” pole, dedicated to the role of digital technologies in the service of agriculture, the extension of the “local products” pole, promoting Moroccan agricultural diversity, as well as the introduction of the E-ticket to improve access conditions.
Placed under the High Patronage of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, SIAM is one of the largest agricultural events in Africa and the Middle East which sees leaders of the agricultural industry, experts and agricultural companies parade every year. world renown.
Less than 24 hours before its inauguration, this show is establishing itself as an essential platform for collaboration and exchange, offering stakeholders in the agricultural sector, particularly those from Spain, a unique opportunity to come together and share their knowledge. , their experiences and their innovations.
This edition will therefore constitute a privileged moment for Moroccan and Spanish professionals to consolidate their existing partnerships and create new ones, with the aim of jointly tackling common challenges which require even closer cooperation from both countries.
