Fes-Meknes – The Fes-Meknes Regional Multi-Service Company has addressed the ongoing controversy over the rising amounts of some water and electricity bills, denying any increase in tariffs or changes to the consumption calculation system. The company confirmed that billing is based on the actual data recorded by meters and the legally applicable tariffs.
In a statement, the company explained that the billing system for water and electricity consumption has not undergone any changes, noting that the method used to calculate consumption and the applicable tariffs remain subject to the current legal and regulatory provisions.
The company stressed that it does not have the authority to independently change the billing system or revise tariffs, explaining that the amount paid by each customer is linked to their actual consumption recorded by the meter, in accordance with the approved tariff.
Regarding claims circulating on social media that the costs of lighting festivals and events were being included in citizens’ bills, the company denied these allegations, confirming that water and electricity bills do not contain any additional charges related to such events outside the legal framework.
It added that festivals and events are financed through the appropriations and mechanisms specifically allocated for them and have no connection with customers’ water and electricity consumption bills.
Regarding meter readings, the company stated that they are carried out periodically by specialized staff according to a scheduled program, and that bills are issued based on the actual data recorded by the meters rather than estimated readings.
At the same time, the company confirmed that it continues to process customer complaints related to billing by verifying consumption data and conducting on-site meter inspections when necessary, with the aim of checking the information and safeguarding subscribers’ rights.
The Fes-Meknes Regional Multi-Service Company called on citizens to use its official channels and commercial agencies to obtain clarifications regarding bills and consumption, rather than relying on unverified information circulating on social media platforms.
The clarification comes at a time when the amounts of certain bills have sparked debate among residents across the region. The company emphasized that an increase in the amount of an individual bill does not, according to its clarification, mean that a general tariff increase has been introduced, and that verification of each case remains dependent on the meter data and the recorded consumption.
