Meknes – The removal of several trees and the demolition of unauthorized structures in the Zein El Abidine area have sparked debate among local affairs observers, following the circulation of photos and videos documenting part of the operation, while the President of the Meknes Municipality, Abbas El Maghari, provided explanations regarding the background to the intervention.
El Maghari explained that the operation is being supervised by the Meknes Municipality in coordination with the local authorities and with the assistance of public security forces, noting that it falls within a program to rehabilitate several historic areas and the surroundings of monuments that have undergone restoration and rehabilitation works as part of the Royal project dedicated to restoring historic monuments and enhancing the value of the old city.
According to the municipal president, the operation is also linked to the regularization of the land status of the property known as “Al Akramiyine,” which is subject to an expropriation procedure for public utility purposes, with the aim of resolving its status and incorporating it into the vision for rehabilitating the surroundings of monuments and historic sites.
He also explained that the playground located in the area could be included in the operation following the expiration of the temporary authorization granted to it, as part of the procedures related to regularizing the property and reorganizing the surrounding area.
Meanwhile, local affairs observers are raising questions about the nature of the intervention and the fate of the trees and spaces currently being altered, as well as the extent to which the operation is connected to the overall plan to rehabilitate the area, particularly in light of the ongoing projects around the old city and historic sites.
The operation comes as several projects included in the first phase of the rehabilitation and restoration program for historic monuments and the enhancement of the old city of Meknes are nearing completion.
Meknès – L’opération d’abattage de plusieurs arbres et de démolition de constructions anarchiques dans le secteur de Zein El Abidine a suscité un débat parmi les observateurs de la situation locale, après la diffusion de photos et de vidéos documentant une partie de l’opération, alors que le président de la commune de Meknès, Abbas El Maghari, a apporté des éclaircissements sur les raisons de cette intervention.
El Maghari a expliqué que l’opération est supervisée par la commune de Meknès en coordination avec les autorités locales et avec le concours des forces publiques, précisant qu’elle s’inscrit dans le cadre d’un programme de réhabilitation de plusieurs zones historiques et des abords des monuments ayant fait l’objet de travaux de restauration et de réhabilitation dans le cadre du chantier royal consacré à la restauration des monuments historiques et à la valorisation de la médina.
Selon le président de la commune, l’opération est également liée à la régularisation de la situation foncière du bien connu sous le nom de « Al Akramiyine », qui fait l’objet d’une procédure d’expropriation pour cause d’utilité publique, dans le but de régulariser sa situation et de l’intégrer dans le projet de réhabilitation des abords des monuments et sites historiques.
Il a également précisé que l’espace de jeux situé dans la zone pourrait être concerné par l’opération après l’expiration de la durée de l’autorisation temporaire qui lui avait été accordée, dans le cadre des procédures liées à la régularisation du bien foncier et à la réorganisation de l’espace qui l’entoure.
En revanche, des observateurs de la situation locale s’interrogent sur la nature de l’intervention et le devenir des arbres et des espaces faisant actuellement l’objet de transformations, ainsi que sur le degré de rattachement de l’opération au projet global de réhabilitation de la zone, notamment au regard des chantiers en cours autour de la médina et des sites historiques.
Cette opération intervient alors que plusieurs projets de la première tranche du chantier de réhabilitation et de restauration des monuments historiques et de valorisation de la médina de Meknès approchent de leur achèvement.
