On Friday, the Tangier Municipality announced the launch of a new regulatory decision to organize vehicle parking starting from July 9, 2025. The system aims to enhance service quality and manage public spaces according to principles of efficiency, digitalization, and transparency, while improving relations with users.
The municipality’s official statement explained that the new regulation, numbered 2022/1357, stipulates the cessation of using wheel clamps (SABOT) as a penalty for parking violations, ensuring freedom of movement and circulation. It also seeks to maintain smooth traffic flow throughout the city’s streets and squares, rationalize the use of parking spaces, and uphold the principles of rotation and equality among all users.
This decision regulates the paid use of parking spaces under the delegated management framework, contributing to “enhancing the city’s attractiveness and modernizing the management of its spaces in line with the major developmental momentum Tangier is witnessing.” It forms part of ongoing efforts to organize parking services and improve service quality.
To support the fundamental rights of persons with disabilities, the municipality announced free parking spaces dedicated to this group. Priority will also be given to residents and merchants through preferential subscription offers at affordable rates.
To ensure proper implementation, Tangier Municipality has taken several measures, including providing necessary human resources such as sworn agents, logistical means, and technical equipment. Additionally, horizontal and vertical signage at parking locations has been updated, along with revised timing and pricing boards, all in accordance with international standards.
The municipality emphasized its commitment to ensuring fairness and transparency in access to parking spaces and its dedication to developing and modernizing this vital service. It called on users and civil society actors to actively support the new regulation and comply with its provisions.
Finally, the municipality reaffirmed its readiness to take all necessary measures to guarantee the proper enforcement of the new system, in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
