The construction work for the dualization of National Road No. 8, connecting Fes and Tazaounat, is progressing well, with significant advancements observed, particularly in the first and second sections of the project, which spans over 71 kilometers.
According to local sources, the progress of work in the first section has exceeded 70%, reflecting the commitment of the implementing companies to accelerate the pace of construction. The project, which is funded at a cost of approximately 1.56 billion dirhams, is part of a partnership agreement between the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, the Tazaounat Provincial Council, and the Agency for the Promotion and Development of the Northern Regions. This information has been confirmed by local authorities involved in the project.
The project is divided into four sections, with the first section linking the city center of Tazaounat to the Ouled Daoud commune over a distance of 16 kilometers. The second section extends from Ouled Daoud to the road leading to the Boudrous commune over a distance of 19 kilometers. According to local sources, work on the second section began in July 2024, and as of early 2025, the progress of work has reached 20%.
Regarding the other sections, the third section will connect the road leading to Boudrous commune with the center of Ain Qansara commune over a distance of 19 kilometers, while the fourth section extends from Ain Qansara to the entrance of the city of Fes over a distance of 17 kilometers. These works are an important step in improving regional infrastructure, which will have a positive impact on transportation and facilitate movement between the two cities, according to local reports.
This large-scale project is expected to significantly improve mobility and ease access to neighboring areas, and will also play an active role in supporting the region’s economic and social development.
