Following recent rainfall in the city of Fes, residents of the Baâouinate Al-Hajjaj neighborhood, near Dhhaybiya Street in the Saïs district, have issued an urgent plea to elected officials and relevant authorities, calling for immediate intervention to address a recurring crisis linked to the area’s sewage infrastructure.
Several residents, speaking to Fes News, explained that the sewage pipes—unusually routed beneath their homes—pose a serious threat whenever it rains. Floodwaters from these pipes seep into their houses, causing severe material damage and exposing families to health and psychological risks.
The affected residents pointed out that drainage manholes are often either blocked or unable to handle the volume of rainwater, aggravating the situation in the absence of effective, long-term solutions from responsible agencies.
They are now urging the Saïs district council to take swift action to restructure the neighborhood’s sewage system. Residents demand a safe and efficient drainage network that protects their homes and well-being and brings an end to this long-standing ordeal.
