Residents of Oulad Tayeb, a community near Fes, are facing escalating challenges with transportation services due to what they describe as unprofessional and unethical behavior by some large taxi (grand taxi) drivers.
A trusted source told Fes News that locals have expressed strong disapproval of certain drivers’ conduct, which has become a daily source of frustration. The official fare from the Atlas taxi station to Oulad Tayeb is set at 5 dirhams. However, some drivers are reportedly charging unjustified increases—demanding 10 dirhams during regular hours, and sometimes up to 20 dirhams in the evening.
The situation worsens during peak hours, with drivers often seen idling at the station without preparing their vehicles for service, despite long passenger queues.
Residents also reported that some drivers deliberately avoid dropping passengers off at the designated Atlas taxi station near the Supratours (CTM) area, instead stopping at the Marjane shopping center. This forces commuters to find alternative transportation to reach their final destinations. Furthermore, from Marjane to Atlas, some drivers are accused of picking up new passengers to increase their earnings—an act deemed exploitative and unethical.
These practices have a direct impact on daily life, especially for students and workers who depend on reliable transportation to reach schools and workplaces. In response, residents are calling on the relevant authorities to intervene, regulate taxi operations, and ensure safe, fair, and accessible transportation for the community.
