Elements of the regional security forces in the city of Berkane, in coordination with the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, managed to arrest a person with a criminal record and a general practitioner on Monday, March 10, on suspicion of their involvement in a case related to the promotion of psychotropic substances.
The first suspect was arrested in the act of possessing and promoting two boxes of anesthesia medications. A subsequent search of his home led to the seizure of a set of medical prescriptions signed by a general practitioner from the same city, whose identity was later determined, leading to his arrest as well in connection with the ongoing investigation.
Preliminary findings from the investigation indicate that the arrested doctor was providing the first suspect with medical prescriptions, which the latter used to extract quantities of narcotic pills and promote them on the black market.
Both suspects have been placed under police custody on the orders of the competent public prosecutor’s office, pending further investigations to uncover all individuals involved in this criminal activity and to determine their potential connections to networks promoting drugs and psychotropic substances.
Investigations are ongoing to gather more details about the case, as part of security efforts to combat the spread of psychotropic substances and drugs and to protect society from their dangers.
