Morocco’s Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, addressed eight unified oral questions at the House of Representatives on Monday, November 2, 2026, regarding the impact of recent floods across several regions and the government’s strategy to secure water supply and flood protection infrastructure.

Water Highways, Major Dams, and Seawater Desalination

Speaking before Members of Parliament, Minister Baraka highlighted the implementation of Royal Directives to launch a new generation of water security programs capable of addressing extreme climate phenomena. He announced that Morocco’s seawater desalination capacity will reach 1.7 billion cubic meters per year by 2030, covering over 60% of national drinking water needs while preserving dam reservoirs for rural areas and agriculture, alongside phase two of the Sebou–Bouregreg–Oum Er-Rbia water highway interconnection.
