In a closely coordinated operation, elements of the Tangier Regional Security Directorate, in collaboration with the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance, successfully thwarted an attempt to smuggle 5 tons and 758 kilograms of Chira drugs on the afternoon of Thursday, March 6, 2025. Two individuals suspected of being linked to an international drug trafficking network were arrested.

The security operation took place in the outskirts of Moulay Bousselham, where the first suspect was caught red-handed attempting to smuggle drugs aboard a truck bearing foreign license plates. A subsequent search and seizure operation led to the confiscation of 140 packages of Chira drugs, totaling 5 tons and 758 kilograms.

Ongoing investigations in this case also led to the identification of a woman suspected of involvement in this criminal activity. She was subsequently arrested during a security operation carried out in the city of Kenitra.

Both suspects have been placed under judicial investigation, supervised by the competent public prosecutor’s office, to determine the full extent of this criminal network and to arrest other participants and accomplices involved in these illegal activities.

This security operation is part of the intensive and ongoing efforts by the General Directorate of National Security and the General Directorate of National Territorial Surveillance to combat international drug and psychotropic substance trafficking.
