Moroccan Intelligence Leads to Conviction of Egyptian ISIS Member in Germany

A German court has sentenced an Egyptian-German extremist to eight years in prison after convicting him of planning terrorist attacks on German soil, including a truck ramming operation targeting civilians.

The 29-year-old defendant was arrested in the German city of Essen on October 24, 2023, based on precise intelligence provided by the Moroccan General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). The DGST supplied its German counterpart with crucial details about the extremist’s identity, photo, place of residence, and information related to his potential terrorist activities.

Investigations revealed that the defendant had previously joined ISIS in Syria before returning to Germany and beginning to plan dangerous terrorist attacks, which were thwarted thanks to close cooperation between Moroccan and German security services.

This operation is considered a model of successful security cooperation led by Moroccan security agencies, which has contributed to foiling numerous terrorist plots outside the Kingdom’s borders, emphasizing the pivotal role played by the Kingdom of Morocco in combating terrorism and enhancing international security and stability.
