Ministry of Energy Transition Organizes Workshop on Developing Morocco’s Electrical Grid Infrastructure

Marrakech – Dr. Leila Benali, Minister of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, inaugurated a workshop titled “Morocco’s Grid Investment Program: Building a Modern Electrical Grid for the Atlantic Corridor” on Wednesday, October 9, 2024. This workshop is part of the World Power-to-X Summit 2024 being held in Marrakech.

The opening session was attended by Mr. Tarik Hamane, Director General of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water, along with Mr. Tarik Moufaddal, Director General of the Moroccan Agency for Sustainable Energy, Mr. Zakaria Hachlaf, Secretary General of the Ministry, as well as several senior officials from the Ministry and its affiliated institutions.

In her address, Dr. Benali emphasized Morocco’s unique position as a platform for renewable energy investment, calling on stakeholders from both public and private sectors to collaborate in developing optimal business models to achieve national goals – raising renewable energy capacity to over 52% and achieving a growth rate exceeding 3%.

The Minister stated, “If there’s one thing I can assure you of, it’s that we’re strengthening the role of the state in something as strategic as grid infrastructure. Help us help you invest!”

The workshop provided a valuable platform for international investors, public and private sector representatives, and financial institutions in the energy transition sector to engage in open discussions. Participants collectively explored business models designed to enhance the Kingdom’s competitiveness in the sector, aligning with the high royal directives to meet Morocco’s strategic objectives.

This initiative comes as part of Morocco’s efforts to accelerate energy transition and attract investments in renewable energy, further solidifying Morocco’s position as a regional leader in clean energy and sustainable development.
