General Directorate of Taxes Exempts School Supplies Imports from Value Added Tax

In a move aimed at alleviating the financial burden on Moroccan families, the General Directorate of Taxes has decided to exempt imports of school supplies and materials used in their manufacturing from value-added tax. This exemption is conditional upon these supplies being designated for school use only.

List of Exempt Supplies

In this context, the General Directorate of Taxes has specified a defined list of school supplies that will be subject to this tax exemption, including various tools and materials necessary for students during the academic year.

Price Reductions on School Supplies

In the same vein, Lahcen Al-Mu’tasim, President of the Association of Book Sellers in Morocco, confirmed that despite circulating concerns about potential price increases for school supplies and textbooks, essential school tools such as notebooks and backpacks have not experienced any price hikes this year. On the contrary, these items have seen noticeable price reductions compared to the previous academic year.These measures come as part of ongoing efforts to provide a conducive and affordable educational environment for Moroccan students and to ease the financial burden on families amid current economic conditions.
