King Mohammed VI sent a cable of congratulations to Olympic champion Sofiane El Bakkali on winning the gold medal in the 3000 meter steeplechase at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris.
In his cable, the King expressed his great pleasure at this achievement, saying: “We are pleased to extend our warmest congratulations to you on the occasion of your winning the gold medal in the 3000 meter steeplechase and retaining your Moroccan title for the second consecutive time after Tokyo 2020.”
“We congratulate you on this honorable victory for you and your country, Morocco, and express our pride in your national jealousy and strong determination, hoping that your experience will inspire young Moroccan sportsmen and women in their quest to achieve achievements that raise the status of Moroccan sports,” the King added.
The King also wished Soufiane further distinction and success, saying: “We ask God to grant you success in your future endeavors and to keep the flag of the country flying at the top of the podiums.”
With this achievement, Sofiane El Bakkali won the gold medal after covering the distance in a time of 8 minutes and 8 seconds, becoming the first Moroccan athlete to win a medal at the Paris Olympics.
This comes after El Bakkali successfully defended his Olympic title in Tokyo 2020, where he continued to perform well and outperformed his rivals, including Girma, who was unable to topple him again.
Thanks to this achievement, Sofiane El Bakkali continues to write a new page in the history of Moroccan sports, and everyone hopes that these victories will be the beginning of more successes in the future.
