Taza – According to circulating reports, a person died on the morning of Friday, August 7, 2026, after being assaulted at Oued Bouzmlane, located within the Ait Sghrouchen Commune in the Tahla District. The Royal Gendarmerie launched an investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine the circumstances and details of the incident.
According to the information circulating, the victim was assaulted with a bladed weapon on one of his legs in an incident reportedly involving several individuals, before dying at the scene as a result of severe bleeding.
Following notification of the incident, Royal Gendarmerie officers, local authorities, and Civil Protection teams arrived at the scene and took the necessary measures. The victim’s body was subsequently transferred to the morgue of Ibn Baja Provincial Hospital in Taza.
At the same time, the Royal Gendarmerie opened an investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office to determine the circumstances surrounding the death, verify the information related to the assault, and identify the individuals potentially involved.
According to local accounts, the incident occurred following another violent incident reported at Oued Bouzmlane during the same week. The earlier incident reportedly involved a young man named Ayoub Masi, a father of a child with special needs, who, according to circulating reports, was assaulted with a bladed weapon, sustaining injuries to his head and both legs.
Known for its natural surroundings and waters, Oued Bouzmlane attracts large numbers of visitors and summer vacationers from Tahla, Taza, and neighboring areas during the summer season. Some parts of the site also feature temporary tents and makeshift structures set up to accommodate visitors.
Following the incident, local sources have been circulating calls for a stronger security presence at the river during the summer season, particularly as visitor numbers increase, as well as for better organization of the tents and temporary structures along the riverbanks.
According to the information circulating, several residents of the area are also calling for a more regular security presence during the summer season to ensure the safety of visitors and preserve the area’s natural and tourist character.
In this context, people from the area emphasized that, if the details of the incident are confirmed, it should be regarded as an isolated incident that does not reflect the nature of Ait Sghrouchen or its residents. They stressed that the area is known for its generosity, hospitality, respect for others, and good neighborly relations.
The details of the incident, the identities of the individuals potentially involved, and the motives behind the assault remain subject to the findings of the ongoing judicial investigation under the supervision of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office.
