Washington – Les initiatives législatives se poursuivent au Congrès des États-Unis en faveur d’une éventuelle inscription du Front Polisario sur la liste américaine des organisations terroristes étrangères (Foreign Terrorist Organizations – FTO). Deux élus, issus des partis républicain et démocrate, ont déposé un nouveau projet de loi demandant une évaluation officielle des activités du mouvement.
Selon des médias américains, les représentants Ronny Jackson (Républicain – Texas) et Josh Gottheimer (Démocrate – New Jersey) ont présenté, le 31 juillet 2026, le « Polisario Front Terrorist Designation Act ». Le texte demande au secrétaire d’État américain de mener une évaluation complète des activités du Front Polisario afin de déterminer s’il remplit les critères d’une éventuelle inscription sur la liste des organisations terroristes étrangères.
D’après les auteurs du projet, cette initiative s’appuie sur des allégations faisant état de liens entre le Front Polisario et l’Iran, notamment une coopération militaire, des échanges de renseignements ainsi que des accusations portant sur des transferts de drones et d’armes, en lien avec des groupes soutenus par Téhéran, dont le Hezbollah.
Dans un communiqué officiel, le représentant Ronny Jackson a affirmé que l’Iran utiliserait, selon lui, des groupes affiliés pour déstabiliser l’Afrique de l’Ouest, appelant l’administration américaine à examiner ces éléments et à prendre les décisions appropriées.

Pour sa part, le représentant démocrate Josh Gottheimer a déclaré que toute organisation dont il serait établi qu’elle reçoit des armes ou des drones du Corps des gardiens de la révolution islamique (IRGC) ou qu’elle coopère avec des groupes soutenus par l’Iran devrait faire l’objet d’une évaluation conformément à la législation américaine applicable.
Cette initiative s’inscrit dans une série de démarches similaires au Congrès. Le représentant Joe Wilson avait déjà présenté une proposition comparable en juillet dernier, tandis qu’au Sénat, un texte similaire bénéficie notamment du soutien des sénateurs républicains Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Rick Scott et David McCormick.
Si, à l’issue de cette procédure d’évaluation, l’administration américaine décidait de classer le Front Polisario comme organisation terroriste étrangère, cette décision pourrait entraîner le gel des avoirs relevant de la juridiction américaine, des restrictions de déplacement ainsi que d’autres sanctions financières prévues par la législation des États-Unis.
U.S. Congress: New Bipartisan Bill Calls for Review of Polisario Front for Possible Terrorist Designation
Washington – Legislative efforts continue in the U.S. Congress to seek the possible designation of the Polisario Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO). Lawmakers from both the Republican and Democratic parties have introduced new legislation calling for an official review of the group’s activities.
According to U.S. media reports, Representatives Ronny Jackson (Republican, Texas) and Josh Gottheimer (Democrat, New Jersey) introduced the “Polisario Front Terrorist Designation Act” on July 31, 2026. The bill calls on the U.S. Secretary of State to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the Polisario Front’s activities to determine whether it meets the legal criteria for designation as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
According to the bill’s sponsors, the proposal is based on allegations of links between the Polisario Front and Iran, including claims of military coordination, intelligence cooperation, the transfer of drones and weapons, and connections with Iran-backed groups, including Hezbollah.
In an official statement, Representative Ronny Jackson argued that Iran uses proxy groups to destabilize West Africa and urged the U.S. administration to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action if warranted.
Representative Josh Gottheimer stated that any organization found to have received weapons or drones from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) or to have coordinated with Iran-backed groups should be reviewed under U.S. laws governing terrorist designations.
The bill follows similar legislative initiatives introduced in Congress in recent months. Representative Joe Wilson previously submitted a comparable proposal in July, while a related measure has also been introduced in the Senate with support from Republican senators including Ted Cruz, Tom Cotton, Rick Scott, and David McCormick.
If, following the required review, the U.S. administration were to designate the Polisario Front as a Foreign Terrorist Organization, the decision could result in the freezing of assets under U.S. jurisdiction, travel restrictions, and additional financial measures provided for under U.S. law.
