Rabat – L’ambassadeur des États-Unis au Maroc, Duke Buchan, a salué le leadership du Roi Mohammed VI et a réaffirmé le soutien de Washington à la souveraineté du Royaume sur son Sahara, à la suite de l’attribution du nom du président des États-Unis, Donald Trump, à l’autoroute reliant Tiznit à Dakhla.
Dans le même contexte, le président américain Donald Trump a exprimé sa profonde gratitude envers le souverain marocain dans un message publié sur sa plateforme Truth Social, déclarant : « Merci à Sa Majesté le Roi Mohammed VI, Roi du Maroc très respecté. C’est un immense honneur ! Et j’espère avoir un jour, très bientôt si Dieu le veut, l’occasion de parcourir cette magnifique autoroute dans son intégralité. » Trump a accompagné son message d’une vidéo intitulée « Donald J. Trump Highway: A Road of Peace Toward Prosperity », présentant les caractéristiques techniques et l’importance de cette infrastructure.
Pour sa part, l’ambassadeur américain Duke Buchan a indiqué que la dénomination « Autoroute du Président Donald J. Trump » constitue une illustration marquante de la vision éclairée du Roi Mohammed VI, qu’il a qualifié de « véritable partenaire pour la paix ». Il a ajouté que les États-Unis maintiennent leur engagement ferme aux côtés du Maroc afin de consolider la marocanité du Sahara comme vecteur de paix, de stabilité régionale et de prospérité.
Cette décision intervient en reconnaissance de la décision historique de l’administration américaine de décembre 2020, par laquelle les États-Unis ont officiellement reconnu la pleine souveraineté du Maroc sur son Sahara.

Cet axe stratégique figure parmi les plus grands projets d’infrastructures routières du Royaume. Long de 1 055 kilomètres et réalisé pour un investissement d’environ 10 milliards de dirhams, il relie Tiznit à Dakhla en traversant les régions de Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laâyoune-Sakia El Hamra et Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. Mis en service au début de l’année 2025, ce projet vise à renforcer la connectivité des provinces du Sud, à faciliter les échanges commerciaux et à soutenir l’intégration économique du Maroc avec son espace africain subsaharien.

Rabat – U.S. Ambassador to Morocco Duke Buchan praised the leadership of King Mohammed VI and reaffirmed Washington’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara following the decision to name the highway linking Tiznit and Dakhla after U.S. President Donald Trump.
In the same context, President Donald Trump expressed his deep appreciation to the Moroccan monarch in a post published on his Truth Social platform, writing: “Thank you to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, the highly respected King of Morocco. It is a great honor! And I hope one day, very soon God willing, to have the opportunity to travel this magnificent highway in its entirety.” Trump accompanied his post with a video titled “Donald J. Trump Highway: A Road of Peace Toward Prosperity,” showcasing the scale and technical features of the infrastructure project.
For his part, Ambassador Duke Buchan said that the designation “President Donald J. Trump Highway” represents a prominent embodiment of King Mohammed VI’s far-sighted vision, describing the Moroccan monarch as a “true partner for peace.” He added that the United States remains firmly committed to standing alongside Morocco in consolidating Moroccan sovereignty over the Sahara as a foundation for peace, regional stability, and prosperity.
The decision comes in recognition of the historic December 2020 decision by the U.S. administration to officially recognize Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara.
The strategic highway is considered one of the largest road infrastructure projects in Morocco. Stretching 1,055 kilometers and built at an investment cost of approximately 10 billion Moroccan dirhams, it connects Tiznit to Dakhla through the regions of Guelmim-Oued Noun, Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra, and Dakhla-Oued Eddahab. The project, which entered service in early 2025, aims to strengthen connectivity with the Southern Provinces, facilitate commercial exchanges, and support Morocco’s economic integration with sub-Saharan Africa.
