Lausanne/Rabat – Le Tribunal Arbitral du Sport (TAS) a fixé au 8 octobre 2026 la date de l’audience consacrée à l’appel introduit par la Fédération sénégalaise de football contre la décision de la Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) d’attribuer le titre de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2025 à la sélection marocaine, après avoir déclaré le Sénégal forfait.
Dans un communiqué officiel publié vendredi, le TAS a indiqué que le collège arbitral entamera ses délibérations immédiatement après l’audience. Il a toutefois précisé que la décision finale ne sera pas rendue le même jour et qu’il n’est pas en mesure, à ce stade, d’annoncer la date de publication du verdict.
Le Tribunal a également précisé que les parties au litige ne sont pas parvenues à un accord sur l’adoption d’une procédure accélérée, bien que la partie sénégalaise ait demandé un traitement prioritaire du dossier lors du dépôt de son recours, le 25 mars dernier.
Le TAS a, par ailleurs, appelé à ne pas se fier aux informations inexactes circulant au sujet de cette affaire, soulignant que les communiqués publiés par ses canaux officiels constituent l’unique source d’information concernant ce dossier.
L’affaire trouve son origine dans la finale de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations 2025, disputée le 18 janvier au Complexe sportif Prince Moulay Abdellah à Rabat. Les joueurs de la sélection sénégalaise avaient quitté le terrain sur instruction de leur entraîneur, Pape Thiaw, pour protester contre un penalty accordé au Maroc dans le temps additionnel. La rencontre avait également été marquée par des incidents dans les tribunes.
À la suite du recours introduit par la Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, la Commission d’appel de la CAF a rendu, le 17 mars, une décision déclarant le Sénégal battu sur le score de 3-0 par forfait et attribuant le titre continental à la sélection marocaine.
Le monde du football africain attend désormais la décision du Tribunal Arbitral du Sport, qui tranchera définitivement l’une des affaires les plus controversées de l’histoire de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations.
2025 Africa Cup of Nations Final: CAS Sets Date to Hear Senegal’s Appeal Against Morocco’s Title Victory
Lausanne/Rabat – The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) has scheduled October 8, 2026, as the date to hear the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation against the Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) decision to award the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco after Senegal was declared to have forfeited the final.
In an official statement released on Friday, CAS confirmed that the arbitration panel will begin its deliberations immediately after the hearing. It also noted that the final ruling will not be issued on the same day and that it is currently unable to specify when the final decision will be announced.
The Court further explained that the parties to the dispute failed to reach an agreement on using an expedited procedure, despite the Senegalese side having requested an accelerated review when it filed its appeal on March 25.
CAS also urged the public not to rely on inaccurate information circulating about the case, emphasizing that statements published through its official channels are the sole authoritative source of information regarding the proceedings.
The case stems from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final, held on January 18 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat. During the match, Senegal’s players left the field at the instruction of their head coach, Pape Thiaw, in protest against a penalty awarded to Morocco during stoppage time. The match was also marred by crowd disturbances in the stands.
Following an appeal submitted by the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, CAF’s Appeals Committee ruled on March 17 that Senegal had forfeited the match and was therefore declared to have lost 3–0, with the continental title awarded to Morocco.
The African football community is now awaiting the ruling of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, which will bring a final resolution to one of the most controversial cases in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.
