Rabat– Le Bureau central d’investigations judiciaires (BCIJ) a annoncé, ce lundi matin, avoir déjoué un projet terroriste qualifié de « particulièrement dangereux », qui se trouvait à un stade avancé de préparation. L’opération a conduit à l’arrestation de dix personnes soupçonnées d’appartenir à une cellule extrémiste opérant avec le soutien et la coordination de la branche de Daech active dans la région du Sahel africain.
Dans un communiqué officiel, le BCIJ précise que cette opération a été menée sur la base de renseignements précis fournis par la Direction générale de la surveillance du territoire (DGST). Des interventions simultanées ont été réalisées dans plusieurs villes : Agadir, Taroudant, Casablanca, El Hajeb, Tétouan, Fquih Ben Salah et Safi.
Selon la même source, les opérations ont permis l’interpellation de dix suspects, parmi lesquels figurent une personne déjà condamnée dans des affaires liées au terrorisme ainsi qu’un mineur. Ils sont soupçonnés de préparer des actes visant à porter atteinte à la sécurité des personnes, des biens et de l’ordre public.
Les perquisitions effectuées aux domiciles des suspects ont permis la saisie d’armes blanches, de tenues militaires, de documents à caractère extrémiste ainsi que de supports numériques contenant du matériel lié à Daech, notamment des enregistrements concernant des allégeances à l’organisation et des menaces relatives à la préparation d’actions terroristes au Maroc.
Les investigations ont également conduit à la fouille d’un entrepôt situé à Inzegane, où les autorités ont découvert un véhicule tout-terrain ayant subi des modifications techniques, ainsi que divers équipements et substances actuellement soumis à des expertises scientifiques. Un protocole de sécurité a été déclenché, comprenant l’évacuation préventive des habitants vivant à proximité du site.
Le communiqué indique que les premiers éléments de l’enquête montrent que les membres de cette cellule étaient en contact avec des responsables de la branche sahélienne de Daech et avaient reçu pour instruction de rester au Maroc afin d’y exécuter des projets terroristes. Les rôles étaient répartis entre les membres de la cellule, notamment pour la surveillance, la reconnaissance des cibles et la préparation des moyens logistiques.
Le BCIJ a confirmé que l’enquête judiciaire, menée sous la supervision du parquet compétent en matière de terrorisme, se poursuit afin d’identifier toutes les ramifications potentielles de cette cellule et de déterminer ses éventuels liens au Maroc et à l’étranger.
Morocco: Major Terrorist Plot Linked to ISIS Foiled, Ten Suspects Arrested in Several Cities Including El Hajeb
Rabat– Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced on Monday morning that it had foiled what it described as a “highly dangerous” terrorist plot that was in an advanced stage of preparation. The operation resulted in the arrest of ten individuals suspected of belonging to an extremist cell operating with the support and coordination of the ISIS (Daesh) branch active in the African Sahel region.
In an official statement, the BCIJ said the operation was carried out based on precise intelligence provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST). Simultaneous security operations were conducted in several Moroccan cities, including Agadir, Taroudant, Casablanca, El Hajeb, Tetouan, Fquih Ben Salah, and Safi.
According to the statement, the operation led to the arrest of ten suspects, including one individual previously convicted in terrorism-related cases and one minor. They are suspected of preparing attacks intended to threaten public security, people, property, and public order.
Searches conducted at the suspects’ residences resulted in the seizure of bladed weapons, military-style clothing, extremist documents, and digital storage devices containing material linked to ISIS, including recordings related to pledges of allegiance to the group and threats concerning planned terrorist operations inside Morocco.
Investigators also searched a warehouse in Inzegane, where they discovered a four-wheel-drive vehicle that had undergone technical modifications, along with equipment and materials that are currently undergoing forensic examination. As a precautionary measure, security authorities activated an emergency protocol that included evacuating nearby residents.
The BCIJ stated that preliminary investigations indicate that members of the cell had been in contact with senior figures from the ISIS affiliate operating in the Sahel and had received instructions to remain in Morocco in order to carry out terrorist operations. Responsibilities within the cell were reportedly divided among its members, including surveillance, target selection, reconnaissance, and logistical support.
The bureau confirmed that the judicial investigation, conducted under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office specializing in terrorism cases, remains ongoing to identify the full extent of the cell’s network and determine any connections inside or outside Morocco.
