Rabat – Le Maroc a renforcé sa présence au sein des institutions de l’Union africaine en obtenant neuf postes stratégiques lors des consultations régionales relatives à l’Afrique du Nord. Cette évolution reflète le renforcement de la position du Royaume au sein des structures de l’organisation continentale ainsi que la confiance croissante des États membres dans son rôle en Afrique.
Selon les données disponibles, le Maroc arrive en tête de la répartition des postes négociés au niveau de la région de l’Afrique du Nord, en se voyant attribuer plusieurs responsabilités importantes au sein de divers organes et comités stratégiques de l’Union africaine.
Dans ce cadre, le Maroc occupera le poste de vice-président du comité ministériel chargé des candidatures africaines au sein des organisations internationales, ainsi que celui de vice-président du bureau du comité chargé de la définition des contributions des États membres et de l’évaluation de leurs quotas financiers au sein de l’Union africaine.
Le Royaume participera également aux travaux du comité technique spécialisé en justice et affaires juridiques, ainsi qu’au comité technique spécialisé en développement économique, tourisme, commerce, industrie et ressources minérales, deux organes clés dans l’élaboration des politiques continentales.
Au niveau du Comité des représentants permanents de l’Union africaine, le Maroc assurera la vice-présidence du sous-comité chargé des réformes institutionnelles, la présidence du sous-comité des questions environnementales, ainsi que son adhésion au sous-comité des droits de l’homme, de la démocratie et de la gouvernance.
Dans le domaine de la migration, le Maroc a été désigné membre du conseil d’administration du Centre africain pour la migration, avec la participation d’experts marocains aux travaux de cette institution continentale, ce qui reflète le rôle grandissant du Royaume dans la gestion des questions migratoires en Afrique.
Ce nouveau positionnement confirme, selon plusieurs observateurs, le renforcement du rôle du Maroc au sein de l’Union africaine dans les domaines de la réforme institutionnelle, de la gouvernance, du financement, du développement économique et de la migration, et illustre la confiance accordée au Royaume ainsi que sa contribution continue aux grands chantiers stratégiques de l’organisation.
African Union renews confidence in Morocco: Kingdom secures 9 strategic positions within continental decision-making bodies
Rabat – Morocco has strengthened its presence within African Union institutions by obtaining nine strategic positions during regional consultations for North Africa. This development reflects the growing status of the Kingdom within the structures of the continental organization and the increasing trust of member states in its expanding role across Africa.
According to available data, Morocco topped the distribution of negotiated positions within the North African region, being assigned key responsibilities within several strategic bodies and committees of the African Union.
In this context, Morocco will serve as Vice-Chair of the ministerial committee responsible for African candidacies in international organizations, as well as Vice-Chair of the bureau of the committee in charge of determining member states’ contributions and assessing their financial quotas within the African Union.
The Kingdom will also take part in the work of the Technical Specialized Committee on Justice and Legal Affairs, as well as the Technical Specialized Committee on Economic Development, Tourism, Trade, Industry, and Mineral Resources—two key bodies involved in shaping continental policies.
At the level of the African Union Permanent Representatives Committee, Morocco will hold the Vice-Chairmanship of the subcommittee on institutional reforms, chair the subcommittee on environmental issues, and participate in the subcommittee on human rights, democracy, and governance.
In the field of migration, Morocco has been selected as a member of the governing board of the African Migration Centre, with Moroccan experts also contributing to its work, reflecting the Kingdom’s growing role in managing migration issues at the continental level.
This new positioning confirms, according to observers, Morocco’s expanding role within the African Union in institutional reform, governance, financing, economic development, and migration, while illustrating the trust placed in the Kingdom and its ongoing contribution to the organization’s strategic initiatives.
