According to information reported by the Moroccan daily newspaper Assabah, territorial authorities responsible for demolition operations and the clearance of public property have recently received directives from the Ministry of Interior calling for caution in handling cases related to relocation and the removal of illegal constructions, in order to avoid potential social tensions and unrest.
The same source indicated that the instructions emphasize the need to avoid any actions that could escalate tensions on the ground, particularly amid the circulation of social media posts and videos documenting the movements of local officials during demolition operations. Such content, according to the report, could provoke angry reactions among individuals affected by eviction or relocation measures.
The directives also reportedly included recommendations to limit filming around operations targeting illegal buildings or the occupation of public property, while taking into account the humanitarian and social dimensions linked to certain sensitive cases.
The newspaper further reported that authorities are considering a review of several files related to fees and charges associated with the temporary occupation of public property, as well as certain urban planning and construction-related cases, as part of efforts to reassess local management mechanisms for these situations.
In the same context, the report highlighted the continuation of field monitoring campaigns carried out by local authorities in several cities and surrounding areas, following the expansion of illegal construction in recent years, particularly on the outskirts of major urban centers and in rural zones.
The sources also noted that some demolition or eviction operations have been temporarily postponed for social and humanitarian reasons, especially in cases involving families residing in buildings targeted by administrative decisions.
These developments come as campaigns to clear public property and monitor urban planning violations continue across different regions of the Kingdom, amid calls to strike a balance between enforcing the law and respecting the social conditions of affected populations.
