According to information circulating among local stakeholders, this project is part of an effort to address the situation of street vendors and reorganize their activities, following previous attempts that failed to achieve the desired results, including the “Al-Salam” market in the “Bam” neighborhood, which did not attract a sufficient number of vendors.
The same sources note that the choice of the new market’s location within the city center raises questions about its ability to accommodate commercial activity without disrupting traffic flow, particularly given the pressure this urban area already faces, in contrast to previous proposals that called for alternative spaces outside the city center.
Local stakeholders also reported that the land designated for the project was previously envisioned as a green space before being repurposed for this initiative, as part of efforts to find practical solutions to the issue of street vendors, which has become increasingly prominent in recent years.
