Morocco – Samir Sobha, President of the Mauritius Football Association and member of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stated that the “Morocco 2025” Africa Cup of Nations final witnessed incidents that impacted the course of the match between Morocco and Senegal.

In a press statement, Sobha indicated that certain regulatory rules “were not applied as required,” referring to the penalty decision that sparked widespread debate, as well as the stoppage of play in the final minutes before the match resumed approximately 15 minutes later.
Dans une déclaration à la presse, M. Sobha a indiqué que certaines règles organisationnelles « n’ont pas été appliquées comme il se devait », en référence au penalty ayant suscité un large débat, ainsi qu’à l’interruption du jeu dans les dernières minutes avant sa reprise environ 15 minutes plus tard.

He added that, according to his reading of the regulations, collective disciplinary measures should have been taken after several players left the pitch during the stoppage, noting that what occurred left a sense of grievance among a segment of Moroccan supporters.
Il a ajouté que, selon son interprétation des règlements, des mesures disciplinaires collectives auraient dû être prises après la sortie de plusieurs joueurs du terrain durant l’interruption, soulignant que les faits ont laissé un sentiment d’injustice لدى une partie des supporters marocains.

The CAF Executive Committee member emphasized that he is not calling for a change in the match result or for Senegal to be stripped of the title, stressing that what happened is now part of the past. However, he considered it necessary to “acknowledge the existence of refereeing and organizational issues” and to work on preventing their recurrence in the future.
Le membre du Comité exécutif de la CAF a souligné qu’il n’appelle ni à modifier le résultat du match ni à retirer le titre à la sélection sénégalaise, affirmant que les événements font désormais partie du passé. Il a toutefois jugé nécessaire de « reconnaître l’existence d’irrégularités arbitrales et organisationnelles » et d’œuvrer à éviter leur répétition à l’avenir.

He further stated that reviewing the tournament regulations could provide, in his view, a different reading of certain decisions taken during the final, calling for overcoming disagreements and strengthening confidence in continental competitions.
Il a également estimé qu’une relecture des règlements de la compétition pourrait, selon lui, offrir une interprétation différente de certaines décisions prises lors de la finale, appelant à dépasser les divergences et à renforcer la confiance dans les compétitions continentales.
