The National Health Union, affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labour, has warned about the alarming rise in attacks targeting healthcare professionals in several hospital institutions. The union considers that these acts directly undermine the dignity of health workers, their physical and psychological safety, and threaten the continuity and quality of healthcare services provided to citizens.

According to a statement issued by the union’s provincial office, several healthcare workers have been subjected to verbal and physical assaults while performing their professional duties. The union described the context as “difficult and complex”, marked by growing pressure on health facilities and a shortage of human resources and equipment, which fuels tension within hospital institutions.

The same source stressed that these assaults cannot be dissociated from the structural constraints affecting the health sector, particularly overcrowding and limited resources. It emphasized that holding healthcare workers responsible for dysfunctions beyond their control is unacceptable and undermines trust within the health system.

The union called on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection and public authorities to fully assume their responsibilities by ensuring legal and security protection for healthcare workers in their workplaces. It also urged the strict enforcement of punitive legal provisions against anyone found guilty of assaulting health professionals, while guaranteeing a safe and motivating working environment.

The statement further underlined the need to improve working conditions, strengthen human resources, and provide adequate logistical means to ease the pressure on hospitals. It considered that addressing the root causes of tension within healthcare institutions requires genuine structural reforms rather than temporary solutions.

In conclusion, the National Health Union expressed its full solidarity with all affected healthcare workers and renewed its call for a serious and responsible dialogue with social partners, in order to safeguard the dignity of health professionals and protect citizens’ right to quality public healthcare services.
