The President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, categorically denied the accuracy of claims circulating on some social media platforms alleging a verbal confrontation between him and the President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, Fouzi Lekjaa. The alleged incident was said to have occurred during a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Confederation of African Football, held on the sidelines of the recent Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.
Le président de la Fédération nigériane de football, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, a catégoriquement démenti les informations relayées sur certaines plateformes de réseaux sociaux faisant état d’une altercation verbale entre lui et le président de la Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, Fouzi Lekjaa. L’incident présumé aurait eu lieu lors d’une réunion du Comité exécutif de la Confédération Africaine de Football, tenue en marge des dernières phases finales de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations au Maroc.
This clarification came in response to an article published by an Algerian newspaper, which alleged that a heated exchange had taken place between the sports officials during an official meeting of the Confederation of African Football, claiming that offensive remarks were exchanged—claims that were firmly denied by the Nigerian side.
Cette mise au point fait suite à un article publié par un journal algérien, qui a affirmé qu’un échange virulent aurait eu lieu entre les responsables sportifs lors d’une réunion officielle de la Confédération Africaine de Football, évoquant un échange de propos offensants, ce que la partie nigériane a formellement démenti.
In a statement issued by the Nigeria Football Federation, Gusau described these allegations as “fabrications,” stressing that they are not based on any factual reality and do not reflect the atmosphere of the meeting, which he said unfolded within a normal institutional framework.
Dans un communiqué de la Fédération nigériane de football, Gusau a qualifié ces allégations de « pures inventions », soulignant qu’elles ne reposent sur aucun fait réel et ne reflètent en rien l’atmosphère de la réunion, qui s’est déroulée, selon lui, dans un cadre institutionnel normal.
The Nigeria FA President further explained that football relations between Nigeria and Morocco are characterized by cordiality and mutual respect, both at the sporting and official levels. He added that his personal relationship with Fouzi Lekjaa has always been positive and free of any tension.
Le président de la Fédération nigériane a précisé que les relations footballistiques entre le Nigeria et le Maroc se distinguent par la cordialité et le respect mutuel, tant sur le plan sportif qu’officiel. Il a ajouté que sa relation personnelle avec Fouzi Lekjaa a toujours été positive et exempte de toute tension.
Gusau, who also serves as President of the West African Football Union (Zone B), stressed that claims about shouting or insults are “completely unfounded,” asserting that those behind such narratives are spreading misleading information.
Gusau, qui occupe également le poste de président de l’Union des fédérations ouest-africaines de football (Zone B), a insisté sur le fait que les allégations concernant des cris ou des insultes sont « totalement infondées », estimant que les auteurs de ces récits diffusent des informations erronées.
The Nigerian official also denied having made any statements related to refereeing, either before or after the semi-final match between Nigeria and Morocco, which was played on January 14 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat. He confirmed that prior to the match he had expressed full confidence in the refereeing team and did not issue any comments afterward.
Le responsable nigérian a également nié avoir fait la moindre déclaration concernant l’arbitrage, que ce soit avant ou après la demi-finale opposant le Nigeria au Maroc, disputée le 14 janvier au Stade Prince Moulay Abdellah à Rabat. Il a assuré qu’il avait exprimé avant le match sa totale confiance envers le corps arbitral et qu’il n’avait formulé aucun commentaire par la suite.
In closing, Gusau praised the organizational standards of the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco, expressing the Nigeria Football Federation’s appreciation for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the local organizing committee, the Government of the Kingdom of Morocco, as well as the Confederation of African Football, for what he described as a highly successful continental tournament.
En conclusion, Gusau a salué le niveau d’organisation des phases finales de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations au Maroc, exprimant la reconnaissance de la Fédération nigériane de football à l’égard de la Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football, du comité local d’organisation, du gouvernement du Royaume du Maroc, ainsi que de la Confédération Africaine de Football, pour ce qu’il a qualifié de grand succès du tournoi continental.
He added that this edition of the Africa Cup of Nations will remain etched in memory for its well-executed organization and vibrant atmosphere, which reflected a positive image of African football.
Il a ajouté que cette édition de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations restera, selon ses termes, gravée dans les mémoires grâce à son organisation rigoureuse et à l’ambiance attractive qui a véhiculé une image positive du football africain.
