The Directorate General of Meteorology announced that several areas of the Kingdom will experience unstable weather conditions starting today, Friday, through next Tuesday. These conditions include significant snowfall, heavy rain or strong showers, and a notable cold wave, according to an orange-level weather alert bulletin.
The Directorate explained that high-altitude areas above 1,400 meters are expected to witness heavy snowfall ranging between 35 and 80 centimeters, particularly in the provinces and prefectures of Al Haouz, Azilal, and Chichaoua, from Friday evening until Monday morning. Snowfall amounts of 15 to 35 centimeters are also forecast for elevations above 1,300 meters in Midelt, Beni Mellal, Ouarzazate, Tinghir, Khénifra, Sefrou, Boulemane, Al Hoceima, Chefchaouen, Guercif, Taza, and Taroudant, during the same period.
The same source added that areas exceeding 1,200 meters will also experience lighter snowfall, ranging between 10 and 15 centimeters, affecting the provinces of Driouch, Figuig, Errachidia, Taourirt, and El Hajeb. Light snowfall or precipitation of 10 to 15 millimeters is also expected in mountainous areas above 1,500 meters in Tiznit and Chtouka Ait Baha, from Friday evening until Monday morning.
In the same context, the Directorate forecast heavy rain or strong showers with amounts ranging between 20 and 40 millimeters in several provinces and prefectures, including Kenitra, Sidi Slimane, Ben Slimane, Berrechid, Rabat, Khouribga, Salé, Temara–Skhirate, Meknes, Azilal, Casablanca, Mediouna, Kalaat Sraghna, Mohammedia, Nouaceur, Khemisset, Al Hoceima, Al Haouz, Fkih Ben صالح, Tangier–Assilah, Ouezzane, Beni Mellal, Larache, Chefchaouen, Sidi Kacem, Khénifra, and El Hajeb. These conditions are expected from Friday evening until Saturday evening.
The Directorate also warned of a strong cold wave affecting several Atlas regions and inland highlands, with minimum temperatures ranging between -3°C and -9°C in Tinghir, Al Haouz, Midelt, Boulemane, Sefrou, Guercif, Taza, Ouarzazate, Taroudant, Chichaoua, Azilal, Beni Mellal, Ifrane, and Khénifra, from Sunday through Tuesday.
Citizens—especially residents of mountainous areas and users of national and regional roads—are urged to exercise caution, take necessary preventive measures, and closely follow official weather bulletins in anticipation of any further developments.
