Casablanca — Security services in the city of Casablanca have arrested an Algerian football fan following the circulation of a video on social media showing him, along with other fans, tearing Moroccan national banknotes near a stadium in the city of Marrakech.
According to available information, the individual identified as (K.B.), who holds British nationality, was apprehended as part of the swift response by security authorities to the content of the widely shared video, which sparked a wave of condemnation across digital platforms.
The same sources reported that the arrested fan admitted to the acts attributed to him before being handed over to security services in Marrakech, where he was placed in police custody by order of the competent Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Marrakech Court of Appeal.
This security intervention comes within the framework of the authorities’ monitoring of digital content suspected of undermining the respect due to national symbols, while ensuring the application of the legal procedures in force under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor.
In such cases, security services reaffirm their continued serious and responsible engagement with any actions likely to disturb public order or offend national constants, in strict compliance with the law and with full respect for the rights of all parties.
