The Morocco–United States Alliance Remains Firm: High-Level Military Talks Held in Rabat Following Royal Instructions

By High Royal Instructions from His Majesty King Mohammed VI, Supreme Commander and Chief of General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the Moroccan capital Rabat hosted on Monday the reception of Brian J. Ellis, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for African Affairs. The U.S. official is paying a working visit to the Kingdom from January 11 to 13, leading a high-level official delegation.

Military Talks Between the Two Leaderships

According to a statement by the General Staff of the Royal Armed Forces, the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Zone, General Mohamed Berrid, received the U.S. official at the General Headquarters. The meeting provided an opportunity to review the various aspects of military cooperation between Morocco and the United States, particularly the issues expected to be included on the agenda of the next meeting of the Defense Consultative Committee, scheduled to be held in 2026 in Washington, D.C.

Praise for the Level of Defense Cooperation

In the same context, a statement from the National Defense Administration indicated that the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense Administration, Abdeltif Loudyi, held talks with the American official. During the meeting, both sides praised the strength of the historical relations linking the Kingdom of Morocco and the United States of America, as well as the advanced level reached by bilateral military cooperation.

Shared Commitment to Strengthening the Strategic Partnership

During this meeting, both parties reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening the Moroccan–American strategic partnership, in line with the defense cooperation roadmap for the 2020–2030 period, signed in Rabat on October 2, 2020, which serves as a reference framework for developing military and security cooperation between the two countries.

Clear U.S. Support for Morocco’s Sovereignty

On this occasion, the Minister Delegate welcomed the United States’ clear and positive support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its entire territory, while commending the efforts made by Washington in this regard. He also highlighted Morocco’s South–South cooperation initiatives and regional integration projects launched under the leadership of the King, which have contributed to strengthening the Kingdom’s position as a key player in promoting stability, peace, and security at both the regional and international levels.

Recognition of Morocco’s Regional Role

For his part, the U.S. official praised the pivotal role played by Morocco under the enlightened leadership of King Mohammed VI, considering the Kingdom a key partner in addressing regional security challenges. He reaffirmed his country’s determination to continue supporting Morocco in its reform path and to enhance its influence as a leading nation in the fields of stability and peace for the benefit of its regional environment.
