“Recklessness Comes Back to Haunt Its Owner”… Algerian Fan Prosecuted in Custody and Remanded to El Arjat Prison

The Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Rabat Court of First Instance has decided to prosecute an Algerian national supporter in custody and to remand him to El Arjat Prison. The decision follows the circulation of a video on social media documenting a controversial act inside the stands of Moulay Hassan Stadium, during the match between the Algeria national football team and the DR Congo national football team, played in the Round of 16 of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.

According to information obtained by Fes News, the Public Prosecutor charged the individual with public indecency and uttering statements offensive to public morals and decency during a sporting event, referring him to the competent court to rule on the allegations in accordance with applicable legal procedures.

The case dates back to the widespread sharing of a video in which the supporter appeared engaging in behavior that sparked broad controversy and condemnation. He later posted another clip claiming that what occurred was, in his words, a “joke,” and that the liquid shown in the video was unrelated to the initial claims circulated online.

Security services arrested the individual in Casablanca before presenting him to the competent Public Prosecutor, which ordered his prosecution in custody pending the completion of judicial investigations.

According to informed sources, these measures fall within the authorities’ commitment to enforcing laws governing sporting events and preserving public order and morals within sports facilities, while emphasizing that the judiciary alone is empowered to determine the facts of the case.
