Last-Gasp Goal Sends Algeria into the Quarterfinals of AFCON Morocco 2025

The Algeria national football team secured qualification for the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations after edging past the DR Congo national football team with a 1–0 victory. The Round of 16 clash was played at Stade Moulay Hassan.

The match was evenly balanced for long spells, marked by caution and tactical discipline from both sides. Algeria enjoyed slightly more possession and build-up play, but clear chances were scarce in a goalless first half.

Despite limited opportunities, DR Congo nearly caught Algeria’s defense off guard when Cédric Bakambu headed narrowly wide. Algeria’s best chance before the break came through a late effort by Ibrahim Maza, which failed to find the net.

After halftime, both teams attempted to break the deadlock with tactical adjustments, yet the tempo remained measured and midfield battles dominated. With attacking efficiency still lacking, the contest went into extra time.

In the 119th minute, Adel Boulbina struck the decisive goal, sealing victory and progression for Algeria, who continue their strong run in the tournament.

Algeria will face Nigeria national football team in the quarterfinals. Nigeria advanced after a commanding 4–0 win over Mozambique national football team.

Algeria reached the knockout stages after topping their group with a perfect record of three wins, while DR Congo qualified for the Round of 16 by finishing second in their group with seven points.
