Taza – Local sources reported that an exceptional program has been approved to rehabilitate the covered commercial market known as the “Souk Dome” in the old city of Upper Taza, alongside the provision of direct support to traders affected by the fire that broke out at the facility on November 29, 2025.
According to the same sources, the program is based on a partnership agreement bringing together several government sectors, notably the Ministry of the Interior, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and City Policy. The total cost of the program is estimated at 10.25 million dirhams.
The agreement comprises two main components. The first concerns the provision of direct financial assistance to 45 traders whose shops were damaged by the fire, amounting to 50,000 dirhams per beneficiary, for a total of 2.25 million dirhams.
The second component involves rehabilitation works for the damaged commercial premises and their surroundings. These works include repairing shops and façades, roofing and paving alleys, upgrading the electrical network and public lighting, rehabilitating water supply and sanitation networks, as well as installing safety equipment and fire-prevention systems, with a budget of approximately 8 million dirhams.
According to local sources, the works will be carried out by Al Omrane Fes–Meknes and the Regional Multi-Service Company of Fes–Meknes, each within its respective field of responsibility. The implementation period is expected to range between 10 and 12 months.
The same sources indicated that project financing is shared among the signatory sectors. The Ministry of the Interior will contribute 3.25 million dirhams, the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs 2 million dirhams, the Ministry of Industry and Trade 3 million dirhams, and the Ministry of National Territory Planning, Urban Planning, Housing, and City Policy 1.5 million dirhams, in addition to a contribution of 0.5 million dirhams from the Regional Multi-Service Company of Fes–Meknes.
It was also noted that monitoring of the project’s implementation will be entrusted to a committee bringing together all the concerned parties, under the supervision of the Governor of Taza Province, in order to accompany the progress of works and ensure that the program is carried out within the set deadlines.
