Ahmed Toufiq stated, during an oral question session at the House of Councillors, that the cost of performing the Hajj rituals for the 1446 AH season has decreased by approximately 3,095 dirhams compared to the previous season.
In his response to a question regarding the reduction of Hajj expenses, the minister explained that the Royal Committee in charge of Hajj set this year’s flat-rate amount at 65,000 dirhams under the official organization framework. He noted that the final cost stood at 63,770.50 dirhams, compared to 66,865 dirhams during the 1445 AH season.
Toufiq clarified that determining the cost of Hajj depends on several key components, including airfare, accommodation in Mecca and Medina, catering services throughout the stay, transportation between cities and Hajj sites, luggage transport, as well as essential and supplementary services, in addition to insurance and visa fees.
He added that the overall cost is also influenced by other factors, notably the 15 percent value-added tax imposed by Saudi authorities, supervision and guidance expenses, banking commissions, as well as the applicable exchange rate, which the minister described as a decisive factor in setting the total cost.
In this regard, the government official highlighted that early coordination took place with Bank Al-Maghrib for the 1446 AH season, resulting in the adoption of a preferential exchange rate. Under this arrangement, the Saudi riyal was set at 2.6118 dirhams, a lower rate than that used in the previous season, which directly contributed to reducing the final cost of performing the Hajj.
The minister also emphasized that the monitoring of the Hajj season is carried out by the Royal Committee in charge of Hajj, alongside a multi-sectoral ministerial committee responsible for overseeing the evolution of Hajj costs both in Morocco and in the holy lands, in order to ensure cost control and improve the conditions under which this religious duty is performed.
