Tragedy in Akkari District, Rabat: Two Dead and Four Injured in Partial Collapse of a Residential Building

Two people lost their lives and four others sustained injuries of varying severity on Monday afternoon, January 5, 2026, following the partial collapse of a residential building in the Akkari district of the city of Rabat, according to information provided by the local authorities of the Rabat Prefecture.

According to official data, the collapsed building consists of a ground floor used for commercial activity, in addition to two residential floors occupied by a single family. The incident resulted in human casualties and injuries that required the urgent intervention of the relevant services.

Immediately after the alert was received, local and security authorities, along with civil protection units, rushed to the scene, where search and rescue operations were launched. Precautionary measures were also taken, including securing the perimeter of the partially collapsed building and ensuring the safety of neighboring structures to prevent any additional risks.

The injured were swiftly transferred to hospital facilities to undergo the necessary medical examinations and receive appropriate treatment, while no further details were disclosed regarding their health condition.

In the same context, local authorities confirmed that an investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office, with the aim of determining the circumstances and causes of the collapse and establishing legal responsibilities in light of the findings of the inquiry.
