Morocco’s General Directorate of Meteorology announced that several regions of the Kingdom will experience severe weather conditions from Monday through Thursday, including heavy and occasionally thundery rain, snowfall, a sharp drop in temperatures, and strong wind gusts. These conditions are covered by orange-level weather alerts.
The Directorate explained that heavy rainfall, sometimes accompanied by thunderstorms, with accumulations ranging between 35 and 55 mm, is expected in the provinces of Azilal, Khénifra, Ifrane, Beni Mellal, and Al Haouz. Rainfall totals of 25 to 35 mm are forecast in several other areas, including Tiznit, Oujda-Angad, Youssoufia, Al Hoceima, Nador, Driouch, Berkane, Safi, Essaouira, Kalaat Sraghna, Chichaoua, Khouribga, Khémisset, Fquih Ben صالح, El Hajeb, Sefrou, Taza, Guelmim, Sidi Ifni, and Taroudant. This episode is expected to last from Monday at 12:00 p.m. until early Tuesday morning.
In the same context, the Directorate warned of significant snowfall starting from elevations of 1,200 meters, with depths ranging from 20 to 50 cm, affecting Ifrane, Boulemane, Khénifra, Al Haouz, Tinghir, Taroudant, Ouarzazate, Midelt, Azilal, and Beni Mellal, from Monday through Tuesday evening. Additional snowfall is expected from elevations of 900 meters, with accumulations of 5 to 15 cm, in several northern and eastern provinces, including Taza, Chichaoua, Figuig, Driouch, Jerada, Taourirt, Sefrou, Al Hoceima, and Guercif, between Tuesday morning and Wednesday morning.
Regarding temperatures, the Directorate indicated that very cold conditions will affect several mountainous and inland regions. Temperatures are expected to range between –4°C and –10°C in some provinces, and between 0°C and –4°C in others, from Tuesday through Thursday.
The Directorate also cautioned against strong wind gusts with speeds ranging between 75 and 85 km/h, expected in several southern, eastern, and central provinces, including Boulemane, Midelt, Nador, Jerada, Figuig, Driouch, Al Haouz, Tiznit, Tinghir, Taroudant, Sidi Ifni, Ouarzazate, and Guelmim, from Tuesday morning to Wednesday morning.
Citizens are urged to exercise caution and to follow official weather bulletins closely, particularly road users in mountainous areas, in order to avoid potential risks associated with these adverse weather conditions.
