Rabat — The General Directorate of Meteorology has announced that several regions of the Kingdom are expected to experience severe weather disturbances, including strong to very strong winds, heavy rainfall, and snowfall, starting today, Friday, and lasting until tomorrow, Saturday. The warning comes under orange and red alert levels.
In an orange-level alert bulletin, the Directorate stated that stormy winds with speeds ranging between 90 and 105 km/h are expected in Al Haouz and Chichaoua, and between 90 and 100 km/h in El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Midelt, and Azilal.
Strong winds of 75 to 90 km/h are also forecast in Youssoufia, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda–Angad, Taourirt, Kalaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Agadir–Ida Ou Tanane, Taroudant, Boulemane, Guercif, and Berkane, from 11:30 a.m. on Friday until midnight on Saturday.
The same source added that similar conditions are expected, at different times, in Rabat, Temara–Skhirat, Nouaceur, Casablanca, Mediouna, Berrechid, Mohammedia, Benslimane, and Settat, as well as El Jadida, Sidi Bennour, Safi, Essaouira, Chichaoua, Berrechid, Al Haouz, Figuig, and Ouarzazate.
Regarding rainfall, the Directorate issued a red-level alert warning of very heavy rainfall, particularly over elevated areas, ranging between 80 and 120 mm in Agadir–Ida Ou Tanane, Taroudant, and Essaouira, from 5:00 p.m. on Friday to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday.
An orange-level alert also forecasts heavy rainfall of 30 to 45 mm in Safi, Sidi Bennour, El Jadida, Chtouka Ait Baha, Inzegane–Ait Melloul, Tiznit, Chichaoua, Al Haouz, and Youssoufia, from 5:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, as well as in Rehamna, Settat, and Marrakech from midnight on Saturday until 10:00 a.m..
In addition, significant snowfall is expected in mountainous areas exceeding 1,600 meters in altitude, notably in Midelt, Tinghir, Azilal, Ouarzazate, Al Haouz, Taroudant, and Chichaoua, with snow accumulation estimated between 20 and 50 centimeters, from 9:00 p.m. on Friday to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has urged citizens to exercise caution and closely follow official weather bulletins, especially in the affected areas, to avoid potential risks associated with these severe weather conditions.
