A municipal councilor from the Commune of Taifa has submitted an urgent complaint to the Taza Provincial Authority, calling for immediate intervention to alleviate the hardship faced by male and female students from several rural villages who encounter daily difficulties accessing their schools due to shortcomings in school transportation services.
In the same letter—of which Fes News holds a copy—the councilor explained that students from the villages of Al Qalaa, Taiblat Al Barqouq, Oulad Sghir, Fnakra, Douar Saida, Douar Al Hamadna, and Douar Taitassent are forced to walk nearly four kilometers every day to reach the school bus pickup point. This situation places an additional burden on them, especially amid harsh weather conditions, and negatively affects their attendance and academic performance.
The source added that at the beginning of the current school year, a request was submitted to extend the school bus route to include Nyaïla School and the Bab Maaskar stop, with the aim of easing students’ suffering. However, the request was rejected on the grounds that the road leading to these villages is unpaved.
The complaint further noted that the same bus provides service to other villages facing similar conditions, including the absence of paved roads—raising questions about the criteria used to grant access to school transportation services, particularly since the commune has five buses dedicated to this purpose.
The municipal councilor also pointed out that parents and guardians of the affected students had previously contacted the commune’s leadership and received promises of a solution. Nevertheless, the situation has remained unchanged, and students continue to endure what the source described as “difficult” conditions, especially with the onset of winter.
In closing, the councilor urged the Governor of Taza Province to intervene promptly to find a practical and sustainable solution to this issue—one that guarantees students’ right to safe and adequate school transportation and contributes to reducing school dropout rates in the rural areas of the Commune of Taifa.
