Doha – In a surprise change just hours before the start of the 2025 FIFA Arab Cup, Tarik Sektioui, the coach of the Moroccan B national team, announced the call-up of striker Walid Azarou, who currently plays for UAE club Ajman, to replace Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RS Berkane) player Youssef Mehri, who was ruled out due to injury. Sektioui also decided to strengthen the squad by calling up player Mounir Chouiar, also from RS Berkane, to boost the offensive options for the “Atlas Lions” in this international competition.
This last-minute amendment to the Moroccan squad list for the eleventh edition of the Arab Cup, organized by FIFA in Qatar from December 1 to 18, 2025, comes as 23 teams participate in what is considered an important test before upcoming continental and international competitions.
The Moroccan national team is placed in Group B. They will begin their campaign on Tuesday, December 2, facing the Comoros Islands, then playing Oman on Friday, December 5, before the decisive match against Saudi Arabia, led by coach Hervé Renard, on December 8. It is worth noting that Algeria is the previous title holder, and Qatar qualified as the host alongside the highest-ranked teams based on the FIFA April 2025 ranking.
