Education Staff in Taza Announce Protest Sit-in Against “Placatory Management” of the Educational System

Taza – November 4, 2025 – The Provincial Office of the National Union of Education Staff in Taza, under the umbrella of the National Labor Union of Morocco (UNTM), announced the organization of a protest sit-in on Friday, November 7, 2025, starting at 3:00 PM, in front of the headquarters of the Provincial Directorate of National Education in Taza. This action comes in protest against what the statement described as “the Regional Academy and Provincial Directorate’s insistence on continuing unjustified management of the educational system in the province.”

Reasons for the Protest According to the Statement

The statement indicated that this action comes after exhausting all communication and dialogue attempts to correct deficiencies in the management of human resources and educational infrastructure. The most prominent unresolved issues that have caused tension include:

  • Irregularities in assigning teaching cycles in secondary schools hosting both middle and high school levels, resulting in the exclusion of a number of teachers from complementary compensation.
  • Unjustified delays in responding to appeals related to surplus and deficit management, and destabilizing the psychological and social stability of the teaching staff.
  • Delays in disbursing compensation to teachers participating in organizing certification examinations.
  • Lack of unified criteria in filling shortages resulting from sick leave.
  • Mismanagement of some educational institutions, and delays in responding to the union’s correspondence regarding educational infrastructure.

The statement criticized “the policy of escaping forward and playing for time instead of addressing issues seriously,” holding the responsible authorities accountable for the consequences of continuing deterioration in educational affairs.

Action Program

The Provincial Office confirmed that the sit-in represents the first step in an escalating protest program, details of which will be announced later. The program aims to pressure for achieving demands, while maintaining dialogue as a primary means of resolution.

Union Context

This action comes in the context of national discussions about improving working conditions in the education sector, as the National Labor Union of Morocco seeks to strengthen union rights and achieve justice in administrative management.
