Rabat – November 1, 2025 – The Justice and Development Party (PJD), Morocco’s main Islamist party, issued an official statement welcoming the recent UN Security Council resolution on the Moroccan Sahara, describing it as a “great historic achievement and victory for legitimacy and Moroccan right”, based on successive legitimate allegiance ties, established historical facts, and religious, social, and cultural cohesion among the sons of one nation.
The party considered in its statement that the resolution constitutes a “culmination of centuries of national struggle” against colonialism and foreign intervention, rejecting partition and fragmentation projects, and seeking to achieve beneficial cooperation and joint action among brotherly Maghreb peoples.

The statement praised the “continuous and effective political and diplomatic efforts” led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI with high wisdom and great firmness in managing this strategic national file. It highlighted that these efforts were crowned with a series of successive international recognitions of the Moroccanness of the Southern Provinces, and were embodied at this historic turning point by establishing the Moroccan autonomy proposal under Moroccan sovereignty as the sole political solution to the dispute.

The Justice and Development Party’s position comes among a series of positive national reactions to the Security Council resolution issued on the evening of October 31, 2025, which considered the autonomy initiative the “sole and realistic basis” for settlement, supported by 11 votes, calling on parties to engage in serious negotiations. This statement is a confirmation of national consensus on territorial integrity, as the Moroccan Union for Higher Education and the House of Representatives have previously issued similar positions.
