In a move aimed at curbing manipulation by some real estate developers, Interior Minister Abdelouafi Laftit has issued strict instructions to governors and provincial officials to set up specialized administrative committees tasked with monitoring and following up on adherence to building designs even after real estate projects receive the certificate of compliance and housing permits.
According to informed sources, this decision is a direct response to the rise of “urban planning crimes” that occur after licensing, where some developers add extra floors or random constructions on rooftops or alter parts of the original designs once all administrative procedures are completed. This poses a public safety risk and creates pockets of urban disorder.
The new committees, which will include representatives from various administrative and technical authorities, will conduct surprise and periodic field inspections of projects recently granted the certificate of compliance to ensure no illegal modifications have been made. If any violations are found, legal punitive procedures will be immediately enforced, potentially leading to the demolition of added parts and criminal prosecution of the responsible developer for fraud and urban planning crimes.
